I think the thing, for me, is that we all enjoy different pieces of the media we engage with. For some of us, the actors *must* physically embody the described character. For others, there are required events, or it's Just Not Right.
(I prefer when adult characters aren't aged DOWN into teenagers. Everybody gets a pet peeve.)
For some stories, my imagination is better than anything a movie could show. For others, variation is okay.
