Chinese Hack Means Beijing Reading and Hearing All US Military and Intelligence Classified Phone Communications

#Chinese #Hack #Means #Beijing #Reading and #Hearing #All #US #Military and #Intelligence #Classified #Phone #Communications

"There has been some limited press coverage about recent #Salt #Typhoon — a Chinese cyber / hacking operation — but most Americans are oblivious about what has transpired. The story is simple. Following Edward #Snowden’s escape to Russia and the release of damning evidence that the US Government was spying on Americans, the US Department of Justice pressured the telecommunications giants — i.e., Verizon, ATT and T-Mobile — to create a #backdoor in their network software that allows Federal law enforcement to read texts and listen to calls on classified apps. If you are using #WhatsApp and think you are safe from the government’s spying eyes, think again."

This is great!

You mentioned the name of the developer of systemd and it sounded to me like there's a problem with that person in particular. Is that what you meant? I'm aware people have their feelings about systemd, but haven't heard anything about the developer, am I missing something or just overthinking it?

lol. I don't like systemd, but this is just a modified version of the GNU/Linux copypasta. It's just a light-hearted jab at the fact that systemd does so many things on Linux systems that it's almost as important as the kernel and GNU utils.

I don't actually know much about Poettering, so not much to say in that regard.

All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of systemd/Linux!

but are they really? how about distros without systemd what would you call those OpenRC/Linux? systemd is indeed a giant intricate project, which is why some people don't like it or are against it,but all its components are working alongside the Linux kernel, without which there wouldn't be a need for systemd. I would say it's rather Linux with systemd,as systemd is optional.

edit: useless autocorrect

Why do so many projects ignore semantic versioning? It's so much easier to comprehend changes when versions are major, minor or patch

Large frontline summary 1-9 December 2024 maratkhairullin.substack.com/p…

Although Assad has fallen, the tragedies in Syria continue. The Syrian National Army, a Turkish proxy force, has captured the city of Manbij and aims to storm Kobane next.

Turkey intends to conquer all Rojava and carry out ethnic cleansing there.

In 2014, with the tacit support of the Turkish government, the Islamic State took over most of northern Syria, carrying out massacres as they gained ground. In the town of Kobane, locals managed to halt their advance only a few miles from the Turkish border.

Now, Kobane is at risk once again.

In Rojava, multiethnic militias including anarchist volunteers from around the world did most of the fighting and dying in the struggle against the Islamic State. Now the international community is preparing to look away while they are massacred.

We must not let this happen. As in 2019—the last time Turkey mounted a major offensive against Rojava—solidarity actions are urgently needed.

Recommendations for mobile Linux desktop environments that run well on an x86 tablet?

I have an unused Windows tablet from 2021 running some Core M processor or other that I want to put Linux on and start using again. It doesn't have a keyboard so I would have to actually use it as a tablet and not a laptop. Is there a distro built around one of the mobile desktop environments that also runs well on x86? (Last time I tried Linux mobile it was pretty much only for ARM and I never got it to work well on even an x86 virtual machine.) Or is regular GNOME deskrop still my best bet for a tablet?

gnome is honestly good as is

Yeah probably the biggest strength of gnome. Often feels better suited for tablets than windows is.
