The foundation of any successful society is an effective healthcare system based around a simple objective — to provide the best service at the *lowest* possible cost and to guarantee access to every member of society. This objective ensures that healthcare provides the greatest good for the greatest number.

The American healthcare system is set up to provide the best healthcare at the *highest* possible cost — because this is what enables individuals to extract the most amount of wealth from the industry. And whether it serves the needs of everyone is irrelevant.

That’s why it’s so inefficient. A large chunk of the $4.2 trillion spent on healthcare in the US isn’t spent on healthcare. It’s spent on an industry that has been created to profit from people’s health.

The US healthcare system is indeed very cost-inefficient & cost-ineffective, designed for profit, & it leaves millions without health insurance at all, especially the poor & those with pre-existing health conditions. "Obamacare" improved the situation, but was by no means a panacea. You in the US need an NHS - oh, but that's the dreaded "socialist medicine", & THAT won't happen under Donald Trump!

@rejzor If the “profit” went to subsidize those who can’t afford healthcare instead of stockholders, costs could also drop because we wouldn’t have to fund an entire hospital department dedicated to chasing down unpaid bills and paying collection agencies.
It’s a crazy spiral we’re in.
So much of our healthcare dollar doesn’t go to medical efforts.
That’s what a real cabinet member should be pursuing!

I'm at the point in the political spectrum that usually favors market-based solutions, but I'm also scandinavian. I have to say some things do NOT lend themselves to market-based solutions. It seems inevitable in the US system that people will be captive of their insurers, nobody goes comparison shopping for their literal survival, at least when that would mean staying uninsured. Being insured ties you to a "network", which is incentivised to bleed their captives dry.

I know that there are "USB condoms" that ensure no data is transferred over the wire, only power.

Does there exist a "USB data condom" which is specifically designed for removable storage and allows a drive to be mounted through it but bans *other* types of data transfer, IE, it prevents a plugged in device from pretending to be a keyboard or hacking my PCI bus via Thunderbolt or whatever the fuck?
