Stillness in the Bayou
I was down at the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana photographing various species feeding on the bayou. I almost missed this great blue heron (Ardea herodias) which was hidden among the reeds. The bird was harder to notice at a distance.

I would like my fellow men to internalise that "toxic masculinity" doesn't mean masculinity is toxic. It barely even refers to toxic behaviors men can exhibit, such as making misogynistic remarks - although that is much closer to the truth.
It refers to a system in which men are brought up to hold beliefs that are toxic: to women and children, to each other, to themselves.
"Boys don't cry" is toxic masculinity. "A man has to take care of his family" is - caretaking is good, but that...
... statement traps men in a cycle of suffering in which help must be rejected by definition, the job cannot be fulfilled without personal sacrifice, and the stress of that suffering must be offloaded. Often in ways that damage others.
The term "toxic masculinity" isn't your enemy. It is not (necessarily) criticism of you.
It's your escape route.
Use it.

I'm wondering if Wayland support in Wine will encourage Valve to support Wayland in the Steam app too.
On my desktop I run a Wayland window manager that doesn't implement XWayland so I can't run Steam directly. So I've been running it in Gamescope in big picture mode - which is actually exactly what the Steam Deck does.
I guess that this is one of the "food samples" you find almost everywhere in Japan. Restaurants for example often have bowls of ramen on display, looking exactly like the dishes they are offering, but made of plastic. That way you know exactly how that dish looks like and even if you don't know Japanese at all, just point at the sample.
So this is advertising for a sample manufacturer.

IBM, for all its faults, has two advancement tracks: a management track, and an expert track. Each comes with training and increased responsibility, but only the management track looks like a classic "promotion".
Any person is growing and likely should be able to advance along a track that reflects their growth. I just don't think that "promotion" is the path, that it relates to gender, that it's necessary to grow professionally.
Adulthood in Japan equates to accepting severe and rgidly defined binary roles regardless of your personal feelings, which may be why the current crop of late-teen/early twenties youngsters seem so averse to even having relationships. And why women over the last couple of decades have opted to not have children resulting in zero population growth despite various "influential" politicians publicly demanding they stop being so selfish.
Often, when people from other countries describe misogyny in Japan, they point out too much about the prevalence of misogyny and fail to explain outside the government the strength of the country's highway-like gender role norms, which are, in fact, a fait accompli for the majority gender.
It's like the majority of men and women are in a conspiracy.
I have bristled each time.
