Music is an excellent medium to introduce physics to novice scientists, as it provides an intuitive understanding of the physics of waves.The book is not restricted to purely musical topics. Each topic is carefully chosen to relate to broader principles applicable to other areas of physics or technology. This is not meant to be a highly technical treatise on sound and musical instruments.

Bronze Age frescoes from Akrotiri on Aegean island of Thera (modern-day Santorini) provide some of most famous images from ancient Greek world.

Around 1600 BC, Thera suffered a devastating earthquake which destroyed town, and this catastrophe was soon followed by a volcanic eruption which covered settlement of Akrotiri in metres-thick layers of pumice and volcanic ash. As a result, vibrant frescoes which were on the walls of almost all buildings in the town have been remarkably well preserved.

I like having Bluesky because it is a non-Twitter, non-Facebook space where I can hear from all my friends who are unable or unwilling to use Mastodon (a site with real barriers to entry). I haven't talked to a lot of those folks much since 2022 and I missed them.

I have intricate arguments why Bluesky is the wrong technical model for a distributed social network. But if a person has already decided *for nontechnical reasons* that they aren't using Mastodon, those arguments mean nothing to them
