Let me preface this by saying that I do absolutely believe the world would be better if Windows were Free Software, but https://www.fsf.org/news/lets-not-celebrate-crowdstrike-lets-point-to-a-better-way is a very odd post. The failure was due to a bug in Crowdstrike's code when fed invalid data, resulting in uninitialised memory being interpreted as a valid pointer value, which exploded when dereferenced. Having more access to the Windows source code wouldn't have helped here. If the argument is that *Crowdstrike* should be Free Software, sure!

But it's also based on a misinterpretation of something Microsoft said. Microsoft isn't arguing that third parties have too much access to the Windows source - they're complaining that third parties are running too much code in unsandboxed kernel environments, and that their attempt to reduce this by enforcing use of safer APIs was blocked by anti-competition law. I don't really buy this (port Defender to said APIs, you cowards), but it's entirely unrelated to source code access.

I dunno I just find advocacy more compelling when it's actually based on facts - there's *so* much to criticise Microsoft for and so many ways the world has been held back by some of their choices and ways that Free Software should result in better outcomes and make those arguments instead of knee-jerk responses based on a misunderstanding of what's actually happening?

"The United Houma Nation, the largest #Indigenous tribe in #Louisiana, has secured a $56.5 million grant to enact a massive plan to deal with growing climate risks that tribal leaders hope will serve as a model, ranging from infrastructure improvements to potential relocations.

The grant to fund the hazard mitigation and resilience plan was announced at a press conference in Houma on Friday organized by the tribe. The money is being awarded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and U.S. Department of Commerce.

Over the next five years, tribal members and partnering organizations will build resilience hubs across the six-parish tribal area, expand a disaster-ready communication network and ultimately establish a community-led migration plan. The plan is designed to create stronger infrastructure and enhance the short, medium and long term needs of the tribe’s 19,000 citizens."

I don't know what exactly he's up to, but if he's saying things like that it means he thinks he's going to win somehow. They may have a big ass plan cooked up to keep people from voting, or getting their votes counted, in some swing states. There's no way the Project2025 cult is gonna go away without some sort of fight (read: rich people).

I know he's old and his brain doesn't really work, but there's always truth in what he says if you can find it. Yes the dictator part we know is there and he'll absolutely get rid of voting if he's elected. But he has to get there first, and that's the part that will worry me as the election gets closer. They always have a plan for something.
