¿Toda la mala propaganda que intentan crear, que a los de LGBT les llevan directamente a la carcel por un gobierno pro Putin donde se queda?
I’m being told that the largest Mastodon instance - mastodon.social - is now hiding my profile.
One person telling me it’s because of German obsession with making up antisemitism where there is none.
Anyone who knows my work knows that I platform critical Jewish voices. My MA thesis was on Yiddish & Hebrew, I do memory studies which incl Holocaust studies, and I am co-producing a Jewish podcast by three radical Jews. I’m also a writer for 972mag.
So what’s up Mastodon? Am I too Arab for you?
Since I saw a report about 1984 (because of a new audio version done for motherfucking Audible!) with the same talking points, here's the usual correction:
1984 is not a book about total surveillance. It's a book about how to ensure the middle class will never stand with the lower classes against power. It's about how to destroy solidarity. In 1984 only the middle class is surveilled, the lower classes (proles) and the upper class (inner party) are not. It's a book about power and class politics that is more relevant than ever - but not "because our phones surveil us".
The University of Exeter convened a panel to advise the university on how to use carbon offsets in its ambitious net zero target. Our conclusion is that all offsets should be ditched. We very much hope other universities will do likewise.
Your organisation should probably ditch offsets too.The Conversation

In theory, the #sanctions are supposed to be effective against the production of drones, which are highly dependent on imported parts.
In reality, the use of Zala Aero’s #drones in the Russian war against #Ukraine has been growing. Over the past year, it tripled.
An investigation by the Kyiv Independent has found that Zala Aero has managed to continue to grow, despite sanctions, by feeding its production through a reliable system of #Chinese suppliers.

An American-made HIMARS artillery system races down a Ukrainian road as a kamikaze drone hunts it down. The drone flies into the vehicle, followed by an explosion. The scene was caught on video by a Russian reconnaissance drone in mid-November.Alisa Yurchenko (The Kyiv Independent)

This is the second time this week that the plant has been seriously threatened by a blackout, which could compromise conditions for safe operation and cause an accident.
At the moment, the plant is connected to the #Ukrainian power grid by only one transmission line.

I'm a fan of folk horror, so Barrowbeck looks like something I might enjoy. It's based on a series of 10 short radio plays on BBC Radio 4, called Voices in the Valley, which I really liked.

Pastebin is a long text and code snippet sharing site. The site has some limitations for free accounts, and does not allow file uploads.
Pastebin recently flagged one of my pastes as spam, so I needed to look for an alternative. The best two open source self-hosted alternatives I found were PrivateBin and MicroBin, both of which do what Pastebin does, and sharing of files. My video takes you through a comparison I did to try to decide which of the two would be best for me to use. I also mention a workaround for not being able to remove a MicroBin paste, and demonstrate how both these applications work.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova received a call during her Nov. 21 press briefing instructing her not to comment on the latest ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine.
Zakharova gave the briefing following a #Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of #Dnipro earlier that day, allegedly involving an intercontinental ballistic #missile (ICBM). If confirmed, it would mark the first use of an #ICBM in war, a weapon primarily designed for long-range #nuclear strikes.

The social media shakeout is happening, and I fear Mastodon isn't looking great…although that's from my narrow perspective on one dying instance.
https://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2024/11/22/mastodon-flaws/
A while back, as Twitter lay dying and rotting, I went out and staked new accounts in other social media sites, gambling on which one, if any, would eventually succeed. One was Mastodon; I have an …Pharyngula
My free web host is going away, therefore this internet thing was a fad?
I had a half dozen email addresses and as many websites before I broke down and bought my own domain. Graduated from rutgers, quit IBM, stopped paying for flash.net, yahoo.com and sourceforge.net got weird... I don't see why mastodon is different, but you do you.
@landley "My free web host is going away, therefore this internet thing was a fad?"
That's such a gross misrepresentation of what I said that I find it offensive.
Thank you to all the people who made productive suggestions of alternative instances.
