A group in the UK that I'm hugely interested in are Library Of Things.
At a very basic level, they offer products such as power tools for rental rather than ownership.
But it's a little bit more than that:
They have a very clear vision, which is centred around *everybody* in a neighbourhood having access to quality tools, toys and technologies, reducing waste, and also *repairing* tools rather than landfilling them and buying new ones.
On top of that: they run workshops on how to use the tools etc; this is not a profit-driven venture.
I don't think they're on Mastodon, so I'm going to take this opportunity, given everything I've been talking about this morning, to give them a little shout-out.
If you're in a position to promote them, that would be great.

En vrai le pestac avait l'air fun et on adore le seum d'extrême droite mais tout de même : À BAS LES PUTAINS DE JO et tout le capitalisme qui va avec.
Et à bas faire croire qu'on est le pays de la diversité et de la tolérance parce que :

Hoe moeilijk kan het zijn om een website te maken waarop je een parkeerkaartje kan regelen voor een bezoeker? Het is even geleden dat ik websites heb gemaakt, maar ik denk dat ik in een middag een aardig eind zou komen.
Zo niet #Vlissingen. Daar hebben we een "bezoekersportal" (waarom half Nederlands en half Engels, maar dat is een ander punt). Kenteken invoeren gaat prima, maar schuiven met begin- en eindtijd werkt niet.
Afgelopen week al meerdere keren over gebeld. "Hmm, ik verbind u door." "Ik kijk even of er een storing is." "Ik geef de collega's even door dat ze geen bon moeten uitschrijven."
En vooral: "ik laat u weten wat we eraan doen."
Je snapt het al: dat laatste is nooit gebeurd. Vandaag het zelfde verhaal, alleen... Nu is het #zaterdag en dus is er bij de gemeente niemand aanwezig. Met andere woorden: zak er maar in met je parkeerkaartje. Mijn bezoek mag nu dus #parkeren in de parkeergarage. Als daar nog plaats is, want er is vandaag van alles te doen in Vlissingen...
je probeert het systeem te veranderen.
Om dat systeem op de eerste plaats voor elkaar te krijgen is al een aanbesteding uitgeschreven, misschien is er zelfs politiek debat over gevoerd.
Daarna is er een systeem gebouwd wat zo goed en zo kwaad als het gaat naar de aanbesteding is geschreven (de aanbesteders hebben waarschijnlijk een opleiding ruimtelijke ordening gekregen, geen opleiding software requirements schrijven, laat staan iets met user interaction design)….
… daarna is er een ambtelijke organisatie ‘ingericht’ die helemaal los is van de software ontwikkeling en die ermee moet werken. Naar grote waarschijnlijkheid is dat een afdeling van de gemeente die al bestond en die ‘vragen beantwoorden’ als taakomschrijving heeft, die zijn vast geen probleem-eigenaar van het systeem.
En dan pas komen de echte gebruikers van het systeem aan bod: de burgers van Vlissingen.
Ik denk dat als je er iets aan wilt veranderen (verbeteren) je moet beginnen bij de politiek of de ambtenaren die de aanbesteding hebben uitgeschreven.
Succes met het bereiken daarvan. Ik geef je mee dat je in #Vlissingen waarschijnlijk grotere kans hebt daarop dan in #Amsterdam of #Rotterdam.

@Koen de Jonge - SynQ Vanmorgen heb ik een heel boos mailtje naar de gemeente gestuurd, daar hoor ik natuurlijk op z'n vroegst maandag iets van.
Het systeem had van mij überhaupt niet veranderd hoeven worden. Vroegâh hadden we gewoon kraskaarten. Kras datum en tijd open, leg de kaart achter je voorruit en klaar ben je.
Maar nee, daar hebben we nu iets beters voor bedacht. Een website-ontwikkelaar heeft daar vast een flinke schep belastinggeld voor mogen ontvangen, maar ik ben er iig niet mee geholpen.
Wellicht werkt het wel met Chrome, maar dat gaat hier natuurlijk nooit gebeuren.

Wel heel erg old school natuurlijk, maar iedereen snapt hoe het werkt. 🫣
